Review: Im a sucker for William Shakespeare, although I do like it better in the theater. This one, however, kept my attention and seemed to do a great job of modernizing all the bickering family stuff. The film begins with a street brawl between Capulets and Montegues. Prince forewarns them that if they ever disturbing the peace back pay loss of life of peace. We are then introduced to the character Romeo is played by Leonardo DeCaprio. Leo does a great job as Romeo, but this because Leo is a good actor in this film. Soon after we are introduced to Julia, played by the lovely Claire Danes, no I have not seen too many movies. Danes does a great job playing the flirtatious Juliet. The film follows the original manuscript very carefully. Symbolism is also used very well throughout the movie. If you look at the guns you'll discover that some say swords, some say rapier, and I think some say dagger. The Montegues always wear Hawaiian style shirt. Capulets dress more like gangsters or thugs, even if both sides could be seen as bullies in some form or other. In both cases, each family is a certain type of clothing that makes it easy to say WHOS WHO. Much I absolutely love parties. Juliet be angel wings and Romeo wears a knight outfit. Romeo's best friend (and I wish I could spell his name, but Id rather not butcher it) dresses up as a woman. So to explain such a symbolism for those who arent getting it, his Romeo Knight in shining armor, Juliet is Romeo dream angel and best friend of Romeo's comic relief. Theres another thing you'll notice also party, Tybalt as a devil horn (ie HES villain). Both families'll take also rich which also included the script exactly. Overall, if you are a Shakespeare fan, a fan of romantic movies, a fan of tragic film, or ; Daan of artistic images so be sure to look into this one. It'll sweep you down you are, makes you laugh, make you cry and make you fall in love. |
